The best solar-powered GPS watch depends on your priorities: the Garmin Instinct 3 Tactical Solar adds mission-focused tools, while the standard Instinct 3 Solar comes in two case sizes and includes a flashlight. The SOUYIE is an option for buyers who want a large AMOLED screen and multiple satellite systems. The renewed Garmin Instinct Solar offers a solar-charging alternative with several navigation sensors. Compare the listed features and solar-charging conditions before choosing, since the advertised extended or unlimited battery life depends on specific sunlight exposure.

Garmin Instinct 3 Tactical Solar, 45mm
This 45mm rugged GPS smartwatch is best for buyers who need tactical activity features alongside solar charging. Its 45 x 45 x 14.9 mm fiber-reinforced polymer case has a metal-reinforced bezel, and the listed wrist fit is 137–204 mm.
Features include jumpmaster activity, waypoint projection, dual-position GPS format, a preloaded tactical activity, stealth mode, kill switch, night-vision-goggle compatibility, and a rucking activity. Those tools make this model more specialized than the standard Instinct 3 Solar watches.
Solar note: Garmin states that unlimited battery life in smartwatch mode assumes all-day wear and three hours per day outdoors in 50,000-lux conditions. Choose this if tactical functions matter; avoid it if you want a simpler feature set or cannot meet the stated sunlight assumption.
Garmin Instinct 3 Solar, 45mm
The 45mm Instinct 3 Solar is best for outdoor users who want a rugged Garmin GPS smartwatch without the tactical feature emphasis. It has a 0.9-inch display, a fiber-reinforced polymer case, and a metal-reinforced bezel.
A built-in LED flashlight offers variable intensities and strobe modes for visibility and convenient illumination. This makes the watch a better fit for buyers who value a practical light in addition to solar charging.
Solar note: The listed unlimited battery-life claim assumes all-day wear with three hours per day outdoors in 50,000-lux conditions. Its 0.9-inch display is smaller than the 50mm model’s 1.1-inch display, so choose the larger version if screen size is a priority.
Garmin Instinct 3 Solar, 50mm
This 50mm version is best for buyers who prefer the larger listed display. Its 1.1-inch screen is larger than the 0.9-inch display on the 45mm Instinct 3 Solar, while both versions feature a solar-charging lens, rugged construction, and a built-in LED flashlight with variable intensities and strobe modes.
The case uses fiber-reinforced polymer with a metal-reinforced bezel. Choose this model if display size is more important than selecting the smaller case option.
Solar note: Garmin’s unlimited battery-life statement applies in smartwatch mode under the stated assumption of all-day wear and three hours outside per day in 50,000-lux conditions. The 50mm case may be less suitable for buyers seeking a smaller watch; the provided product information does not specify its wrist-fit range.
SOUYIE GPS Smart Watch
The SOUYIE is best for buyers who prioritize a large color touchscreen and several outdoor sensors. Its 1.43-inch AMOLED display has a listed 466 x 466 resolution and supports an always-on display. The watch uses GPS, BeiDou, and GLONASS positioning to track routes and sports trajectories without relying on a phone.
Its compass, barometer, and altimeter provide additional environmental information for outdoor activities. The listed battery capacity is 670mAh, and the watch has 3ATM water resistance.
Important limitation: The product information does not list solar charging, so it is not a solar-powered option. Its water resistance is not described as suitable for diving, hot showers, or high-pressure water flow. Consider it only if solar charging is not essential.
Garmin Instinct Solar, Renewed
This renewed Garmin Instinct Solar is best for buyers looking for solar charging and multi-satellite navigation in a rugged outdoor watch. It includes GPS, GLONASS, and Galileo, plus a 3-axis compass and barometric altimeter. Using multiple global navigation satellite systems is listed as a way to track in more challenging environments than GPS alone.
The watch is water-rated to 100 meters, and the product information states that it was constructed to U.S. military standard 810 for thermal, shock, and water resistance. Solar charging is described as extending battery life.
Limitation: This listing is for a renewed product, rather than a new one. Its supplied feature description does not state a specific solar-charging sunlight assumption or an unlimited battery-life claim.
Buying Guide: How to Choose a Solar GPS Watch
Does the watch need to be solar powered?
Check the feature list carefully. Four of the five watches above list solar charging; the SOUYIE model does not. Solar charging can extend battery life, but the listed Garmin Instinct 3 claims specify a particular sunlight exposure assumption. Do not treat “unlimited” as a guarantee for every use pattern or lighting condition.
Which case size and display should you choose?
The Instinct 3 Solar options provide a direct size comparison: the 45mm model has a 0.9-inch display, while the 50mm model has a 1.1-inch display. The tactical version is also 45mm and lists a wrist circumference range of 137–204 mm. Compare those details with your preferred fit and display size.
Which navigation and outdoor features matter?
For tactical activities, the Instinct 3 Tactical Solar lists tools such as waypoint projection and dual-position GPS format. The renewed Instinct Solar lists GPS, GLONASS, and Galileo, plus a compass and barometric altimeter. The SOUYIE lists GPS, BeiDou, and GLONASS alongside a compass, barometer, and altimeter. Compare named features rather than assuming every model includes the same sensors or tools.
How should water resistance affect your decision?
The renewed Garmin listing states a 100-meter water rating. The SOUYIE listing specifies 3ATM resistance and cautions against diving, hot showers, and high-pressure water flow. The supplied features for the other models do not provide a water rating, so verify the product details if water use is a deciding factor.
